Six Days of Heritage & Craft in China’s Capital

Day 1: Arrive & Unwind

Land in Beijing and feel the pace settle. A private guide and vehicle meet you at the airport for the 50–70 minute drive into the city, and once you have checked in, the hours are yours — shopping along Wangfujing, or a Chinese massage to chase away the long-haul flight.

Day 2: The Imperial Heart

Morning begins on Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest city square and the national symbol of China, before you step through the gates of the Forbidden City — the largest palace complex on earth — to hear the court’s fascination of history and intrigue. Late afternoon comes as it should in old Beijing: a traditional rickshaw through the hutong lanes and courtyard homes, then a lakeside stroll through the Lotus Market and Houhai. The day closes with a Peking duck feast, the capital’s crisp, fragrant signature.

Day 3: The Great Wall

Drive about an hour and forty minutes to Mutianyu, a scenic and less-crowded stretch of the Great Wall — a UNESCO site and one of the New Seven Wonders. A cable car carries you up and down, so you keep your breath for the view: the “Eastern Dragon” snaking across mountains to the horizon. Lunch is honest farmhouse cooking near the wall.

Day 4: Heritage Crafts

The morning is the journey’s most personal: at a private handicrafts museum tucked into a hutong courtyard, an expert teaches you the ancient art of seal carving, and you engrave your own jade seal — calligraphy, composition and knife technique in your own hands. After a rest, the afternoon is pure wonder at a Chinese acrobatics show, and dinner is a traditional Beijing copper hot pot.

Day 5: Royal Temples & Gardens

Morning visits two masterpieces: the Temple of Heaven, the world’s largest complex for heaven worship with its whisper-wall acoustics, and the Summer Palace, China’s best-preserved imperial garden. Afternoon brings the Lama Temple, Beijing’s largest Tibetan Buddhist temple with its colossal wooden Buddha. Evening is a court cuisine banquet — imperial-inspired dishes with performance and traditional ambiance.

Day 6: Departure

A private vehicle returns you to the airport for a fond farewell — carrying a jade seal, a duck feast’s memory, and the glow of five World Heritage wonders.
