Day 1: Arrival & the Hidden West Lake

As dusk falls, the Dadu Road canal quarter offers the Grand Canal’s own, utterly different charm.

Day 4: Jingshan Tea Zen & Leifeng Sunset

A one-hour morning drive leads to Jingshan Temple — first of the “Five Great Temples of Jiangnan” and a cradle of Zen, founded over 1,200 years ago. At its foot, Jingshan Village is both a zen village and a tea village, said to be the birthplace of the Japanese tea ceremony; here you whisk heritage Song-style tea and lunch on honest farmhouse dishes. Back in the city, the day closes with Leifeng Pagoda at Sunset, one of the Ten Scenes of West Lake — ride to the top for the lake and hills gilded in late light.

Day 5: Homeward Bound

A relaxed breakfast, a private transfer to Hangzhou East — about 45 minutes from the lakeshore hotel, 30 from the city centre — and one hour of rail returns you to Shanghai Hongqiao. You leave, as the ancients did, with half your heart still by the lake.
