Day 1: Arrival & the Xixia Echo

Land in Yinchuan and warm up with a bowl of lamb offal soup or hand-pulled mutton. By afternoon, drive about 50 minutes to the Xixia Imperial Tombs — skip the textbooks and read the dynasty’s silhouette between loess and the Helan Mountains; the wind is strong and the stories are wild. Evening settles at the highest hotel in the city, the JW Marriott Yinchuan, the mountains stretching across your window — one drink and you’re on northwest time.

Day 2: Wine & Stars

Morning at the Ningxia Museum for a “treasure hunt” — three crown-jewel relics you simply must see. By afternoon, hand your taste buds to Chandon and the Helan Mountain estate: no talk of tannins, just what tastes good — one French elegance, one homegrown cool, and suddenly you see why Ningxia is called “the Bordeaux of the East.” Night falls in a Lost Villa vineyard stay, a minimalist white house wrapped in vines, drifting off to the scent of oak barrels.

Day 3: Crossing the Heart of the Earth

Set off for Alxa Left Banner and Ulan Lake, the “Heart of the Earth.” An off-road convoy crosses the Five Lakes, the water red as if the ground had cracked and bled — you’ll only believe the color once you’ve seen it’s not Photoshopped. After lunch, drive about 2.5 hours into the Zhongwei desert, home for the night at Tengol: an endless sea of sand at your door, a butler-lit bonfire, and a sky full of stars.

Day 4: The Desert Playground

No need to leave the resort all day. Ride camels, tear across dune ridges on an ATV, and book a desert gallery photoshoot in the afternoon — no tourist crowds in your frame, the whole desert is your private set. All for waking up to sand-ripple light, and a night so quiet you can hear your own heartbeat.

Day 5: Shapotou Adrenaline

The big day at Shapotou. A Yellow River zipline across both banks and a 100-metre sand slide straight down — your body flies ahead while your soul trails behind, and halfway down all you want is another run. As the Milky Way rises, the desert stargazing class closes the day in pure magic.

Day 6: The Last Wilderness

Spend the morning on Route 66 shooting wide-open frames — straight road, stark mountains, every shot straight out of camera. No signal, no shops out here — just you and the land. In the afternoon, a transfer to Zhongwei Shapotou Airport sends you home with sand in your shoes and a seed planted for next time.
