Stay in the Scenery

Two nights by Sayram Lake, two nights in Qiongkushitai cabins, and a hotel inside the Nalati scenic area — never just passing through.

🌾

Two Grasslands, One Soul

Nalati, the 'grassland encyclopedia,' and Qiongkushitai, the hidden gem locals keep to themselves — we don't visit, we live there.

🐎

A Nomad for a Day

Ride horseback, hike the Wusun Ancient Road, picnic under birch trees, and milk cows in a real Kazakh yurt — a genuine nomad day.

🚗

Short Drives, Slow Recharge

Most drives are 2–3 hours, leaving the days for wind, clouds and wildflowers — a slow recharge for the soul, not a checklist.

Eight Days in the Pastoral Heart of the Ili Valley

West of Xinjiang, the Tien Shan opens its arms and cradles a lush, fertile land — the Ili Valley. This is not a typical frontier but the cradle of grassland civilization, a living tapestry of snow mountains, lakes, spruce forests and wildflowers. Our eight-day journey avoids the crowds and moves at a slow traveler’s pace — waiting for swans to break the morning mist at Sayram Lake, sharing milk tea with Kazakh herders on the meadows of Qiongkushitai, and meeting Uyghur craftsmen in the blue alleys of Kazanqi.

Day 1: Fly Over Tien Shan, Arrive at the Blue

Direct flights land in Yining around mid-afternoon, and a private transfer (about 2 hours) sweeps you straight to Sayram Lake. From the city to the Tien Shan lakeside, a deep, brilliant blue suddenly fills the view. Check into your lakefront suite at UrCove by Hyatt and watch sunset from your window.

Day 2: One Day at Sayram, a Lifetime of Longing

A full day driving the 90-kilometer lake loop — every kilometer a different shade of blue. A professional photo team captures candid lifestyle shots (two short videos included) while you watch swans glide through the morning mist and the alpenglow settle over the water at dusk.

Day 3: Cross the Bridge, Enter a Purple Dream

Leave the lake and pause at Guozigou Bridge, a silver ribbon crossing the canyon with Tien Shan peaks and spruce forming a panorama. Cross the mountains to Huocheng, where endless lavender fields turn the landscape into a purple dream. Arrive in Yining for an evening wander and dinner on Hexing Street.

Day 4: Blue Alleys Lead to Hidden Gems

Spend the morning in Kazanqi, the blue town where a horse-drawn carriage clops through cobalt alleys. Visit a Uyghur family — sip tea and hear their stories under a grapevine courtyard to the sound of a dutar. In the afternoon, head to Qiongkushitai for a two-night stay on untouched land.

Day 5: Wusun Ancient Road — Wild and Free

Hike a gentle section of the Wusun Ancient Road, then ride horseback to the back hills between forest and meadow. Lunch is a forest picnic spread on a blanket among birch and spruce — naan, grilled meat and watermelon to the sound of wind and streams.

Day 6: Through Bagua City, to the Grassland

Visit a Kazakh herder family to milk cows and bake naan fresh from the oven. Then leave Qiongkushitai for Nalati, stopping at Tekes — a city laid out in the Eight Trigrams (Bagua) pattern — for old-street strolls and local ice cream before arriving for a two-night stay inside the scenic area.

Day 7: A Day in the Grassland Encyclopedia

A full day in Nalati, whose name means “place of the sun.” Morning in the Alpine Meadow, where clouds drift low over the grass; afternoon in the Valley Meadow and along Panlong Road, where every turn reveals new shades of green and light.

Day 8: Return with Wind and Flowers

Bid the grassland farewell and return to Yining for your flight — carrying the colors of Xinjiang in your luggage and in your heart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why stay at Sayram Lake rather than just visit?

The lake is a full sunrise-to-sunset experience. Staying lakeside lets you watch swans break the morning mist and catch the alpenglow at dusk — something day-trippers miss entirely.

Is this trip physically demanding?

No. Drives are kept to 2–3 hours, the Wusun hike is gentle, and horseback riding is at a relaxed pace — suitable for most travelers.

What makes Qiongkushitai special?

It's the grassland Xinjiang locals keep for themselves — far fewer crowds than Nalati, with alpine forests, pastures and a living Kazakh herding culture.

Can the itinerary or hotels be customized?

Absolutely. Hotels, pace and even the photo-session length can all be adjusted to suit your group.
